Tri-Point Energy Services is capable of designing, fabricating and assembling Diverter Valve Packages for offshore drilling applications. Standard Package includes Cameron Series 41 Trunion Mounted Ball Valve mounted to a Hydraulic Actuator
(3000psi) along with mounting platform, high-pressure manifold with hammer unions and JIC connectors so as to allow direct couple to your closing unit.
History
Diverter Valves: In the mid-1970s', the design and deployment of diverter valves dramatically changed. Butterfly valves with pneumatic actuators were the state of the art. Due to two (2) catastrophic events which resulted in loss of life and offshore rigs, the MMS (Materials Management Service) and the USCG intervened and semi-regulated the design and application of equipment for venting surface blowouts.
Having extensive experience in trunion ball valves and knowledge of valve automation, married the two pieces of equipment together and found a unique actuator designed for the US Navy submarine service capable of 3000 psi on the cylinders and built to a 4/1-safety margin ad the package was complete. This actuator allowed the valve assembly to be classified as a legitimate piece of Blowout Prevention Equipment and married the closing unit to the diverter valve actuator thus assuring the reliability of operation during a surface blowout.
The platform was added later while observing operations offshore. Service calls indicated that there was an unusually high incidence of calls to repair hydraulic lines torn from the actuator cylinders. Upon observation, it was found that the nipple up crews were standing on the cylinders while nippling up the BOP's and using the hydraulic lines as a toehold. The platform, which has become the trademark, was added to provide a safe perch for the crews to stand on and also protect the actuator. This feature alone is responsible for the operator demand, as the crews doing the actual work prefer this feature.
